You are here because you want keys to life and health. You can improve your health and strengthen your children\\’s survival skills, in a free, and enjoyable way.

Plugging Into Our Source

You know how people often say, “I need to go out and get some air”? What is it in the air, in nature, that helps someone regroup and get back in the game?

Nature, by design, heals and invigorates us:

Through a Sense of Being – Being within nature.  Breathing in fresh air. Sharing life energy. Being with other creations.

Through Sights – The colors of the trees, flowers, mountains and all the natural beauty that surrounds us.

Through Touch – The touch of wind, water, and heat. The wind brushes across our skin with a definite feel, while water flows across our skin like a therapeutic massage. The sun touches our skin with a comforting warmth that penetrates our being with life-giving nutrients.

Through Sound – The sound of wind rustling the trees, of water flowing, and birds singing.

“Dr. Sonal Anand, Psychiatrist, Wockhardt Hospital, Mumbai says that our connection with nature is quite instinctive considering we have evolved from nature itself … Dr. Anand says if we deprive ourselves of the sensory stimuli, we are not in tune with ourselves. “(1)

How Nature Improves Our Health

Being in nature is not just a good feeling. Things we can’t even see are taking place on our behalf.

“…recent findingshave also highlighted direct physiological mechanisms that are triggered by exposure to natural environments [13,16,17]. This review focuses on direct mechanisms by which nature can affect human health, more specificallyon air-borne compounds emitted by natural environments that have the potential to modulate immunological responses when inhaled, such as biogenic volatile organic compounds (BVOCs), terpenes, essential oils, charged ions, pollen, fungi and bacteria.”( 1)

“Better vitamin D production because of more sunlight is already good for your immune system. But the outdoors seems to helpin other ways. Many plants put substances, including organic compounds called phytoncides, into the air that seem to boost immune function. Sunlight also seems to energize special cells in your immune system called T cells that help fight infection.”(2)

How To Strengthen Your Children’s Survival Skills

Our children gravitate to nature and to playing outdoors. It is their natural inclination. This shines a spotlight on how innocence and natural inclination act as our natural protectors and strengtheners.

A child psychologist named Marcia Mikulak did a fascinating study across continents; in America, Brazil, Guatemala, Europe and Africa. She discovered that:

“Children from primitive settings averaged levels of sensory sensitivity and conscious awareness of their surroundings that were 25 to 30 percent higher than those of the children of industrial, technological countries. Preliterate children were more aware of what was taking place among the people around them and what was said to them and asked of them, as well as the general sights, smells, tastes and touches of daily life. They knew the names and characteristics of the flora and fauna in their environment, which few if any of the industrialized children or adults do.”(3)

This speaks to how time in nature equips children for survival and instinctive belonging in their environment. It speaks to the importance of allowing nature to form and fashion children as opposed to over-exposure to screens and technology or reliance on Ritalin and other drugs to calm and center them.

The tendency of modern society for people to exist more inside than outside has many people not experiencing the joys and benefits of spending time in nature.

Some people live in environments that are sparse in nature, trees and flowers. While others live in unsafe environments that keep them from venturing out much.

View and enjoy from your window screens and porches. Some may even be able to use roofs. Breathe in fresh air, hear the birds\\’ songs, see the blue skies and feel the warmth of the sun.

Bring nature inside with pots of flowers, rock collections and small waterfall installments.

Those of us who can enjoy time in nature should thus count our blessings and take full advantage to enjoy the great outdoors.

Take lunch breaks outdoors

Have weekend family fun outdoors like walking, hiking, swimming, etc.

Walk your pets a little extra distance.

If you must, use your screens outdoors.

Nature is our friend, our healer, our teacher, and a real source of calm and joy.
