It’s puzzling how rest and rejuvenation bring such pleasure into our lives, yet on average, people only rejuvenate when they are overworked, stressed out, and at their wit’s end. Why is it we rarely allow ourselves to rest and rejuvenate?

Rejuvenation is definitely essential in mastering the art of living. When you allow it, it sets you in a cycle that prolongs life. That’s why our discussion today is about how to enjoy continual rejuvenation in your life.

What Do We Mean By Rejuvenation

“The action or process of giving new energy orvigorto something”, is the definition. So doing things that provide you with energy as opposed to sucking the energy out of you. Doing things that increase your physical strength and good health, instead of things that make you weak and ill. The daily grind of work, and maintaining your and your family’s needs and wants can often be demanding and draining depending on how you approach it and how you bounce back from it.

A Surprising Result!

After suffering a debilitating illness from being overworked, a colleague of mine decided to take a new approach to work and life. She threw away the jam-packed workweek and carved out a lifestyle that helped her regain her health and catapult her business success.

She prioritized spending quality time with her family and taking time out to renew her health, and constructed her work schedule around it. She gradually went from a nail-biting six-day workweek to a more productive four-day workweek that allowed her the rest, rejuvenation, and interactive family time she craved.

We have to shed the general mindset that success is only borne from sacrificing your peace of mind to stressful work schedules, missing quality time with your family, and compromising your health; it is a mindset that can be adjusted.

Now my colleague is healthier, more productive and so fulfilled in the family time she enjoys. She has gone from a wilted flower to a flower in full bloom. She says the continual time she devotes to rejuvenation actually makes her more productive.

Recent research reported in the Business Insider seems to support her realization:

“…a New Zealand-based nonprofit — releaseddatataken from 33 participating companies that employed 969 people based in the US, Australia, Ireland, the United Kingdom, New Zealand, and Canada who all adopted a four-day work week in a pilot program over a six-month period.

The research found the shortened workweek was a “resounding success on virtually every dimension.”

“Over the trial period, revenue among the participating companies rose 8.14%, and when compared to the same time period last year, revenue jumped 37.55%. And on the employee side, the findings were significant — 67% of employees reported being less burned out, the extra day without work allowed exercise to increase by about 23 minutes per week, and sleep problems decreased by 8%.

Additionally, even with less time each week to complete work, the respondents in the survey did not see a significant increase in their workload.”(1)

By taking time to continually rejuvenate yourself, you actually become more productive along with being less stressed.

Spirit of The Village

In The Village of Peace Dimona, we have instituted many ways to stay fresh and rejuvenated in a continual way! We commit to these life-enhancing activities for our sanity and to achieve longevity:

We absolutely rest one day of the week. The body needs a day to rest. Ours is from Friday sundown until Saturday sundown, which we call the sabbath, according to our Hebraic lifestyle. This day off allows your body to rest and rejuvenate. It prevents the kind of continual strain that causes an eventual breakdown.

We produce and listen to music that is uplifting. Music enters your soul and has a palpable effect on your mind and spirit. There are definitely certain sounds and lyrics that lift your mood, that motivate you for good, and that bring a feeling of love and unity.

We take at least three days a week to do “Holy Concern”, which consists of some type of movement and exercise. Exercise calms your body, brings more oxygen into your body, and rejuvenates your circulatory and respiratory systems.

Each day we get out in nature to feel the air, wind, and sun; to see the blue sky and the abundance of flowers, trees, and birds. We feel our connection with nature. There is energy there for us.

Each month we get at least one massage. Several members of our community are certified massage therapists and service the needs of those in the community. Massage benefits include stress reduction, better circulation, relaxed muscles, and proper drainage of the lymphatic system.

We socialize in the village and it brings us joy to occasionally spend time talking, laughing, dancing and even farming together. The sharing is mutually beneficial and healing.

Health Tip

So definitely our health tip is to create a cycle in your life to rejuvenate on a continual basis.

Don’t wait until you are broken down. Don’t wait and go on a vacation wherein you are just able to begin to unwind and the vacation is over, and you start the crippling process all over again. Take some tips from our playbook above and create your rejuvenation cycle.

This is how you master the art of living.

We want you to share any tips you have for continual rejuvenation in the comments below. Let’s Live!
